11/14 at about 1:45 PM. Robin and I were enjoying a new batch of veggie chili in th dining room. Lorenzo was standing eating a cracker, when suddenly he decided to start walking forward. He took about 6 to 8 steps on his own -- without holding on to anyone or anything. Amazing.

For the past few days, we've been letting him stand on his own and then we move back a step and hold our hands out to him. He's been taking 2 to 3 steps toward us. The way he decided to just walk without us waiting for him today just floored me.

Peace quotes from Waging Peace -- posted on BPF list.

"Peace is not the product of terror or fear.
Peace is not the silence of cemeteries.
Peace is not the silent result of violent repression.
Peace is the generous, tranquil contribution of all to the good of all.
Peace is dynamism. Peace is generosity. It is right and it is duty."
-Oscar Romero

"After my experience, I have come to hate war. War settles nothing."
- Dwight D. Eisenhower

"I cannot but have reverence for all that is called life. I cannot avoid compassion for everything that is called life. That is the beginning and foundation of morality."
-Albert Schweitzer

"When we are dreaming alone, it is only a dream. Whem we are dreaming with others, it is the beginning of reality."
-Dom Helder Camara

"Difficult and painful as it is, we must walk on in the days ahead with an audacious faith in the future. When our days become dreary with low-hovering clouds of despair, and when our nights become darker than a thousand midnights, let us remember that there is a creative force in this universe, working to pull down the gigantic mountains of evil, a power that is able to make a way out of no way and transform dark yesterdays into bright tomorrows. Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice."
- Martin Luther King, "Where do we go from here?", August 1967

"Peace, in the sense of absence of war, is of little value to someone who is dying of hunger or cold. Peace can only last where human rights are respected, where people are fed, and where individuals and nations are free."
-The 14th Dalai Lama

"We want our country's use of money and minds redirected from inventing ways to destroy one another to learning how to live together."
-Woman's Peace Presence

"Those who are attracted to nonviolence should according to their ability and opportunity, join the experiment."
- Gandhi

"We will not build a peaceful world by following a negative path. It is not enough to say we must not wage war. It is necessary to love peace and sacrifice for it. We must concentrate not merely on the negative expulsion of war but the postive affirmation of peace. We must see that peace represents a sweeter music, a cosmic melody, that is far superior to the dischords of war. Somehow, we must transform the dynamics of the world power struggle from the negative nuclear arms race, which no one can win, to a positive contest to harness humanity's creative genius for the purpose of making peace and prosperity a reality for all the nations of the world. In short, we must shift the arms race into a peace race. If we have a will- and determination- to mount such a peace offensive, we will unlock hitherto tightly sealed doors of hope and transform our imminent cosmic elegy into a psalm of creative fulfillment."
-Martin Luther King Jr.

Technology Review article on the semantic web. Got turned on to this topic and to RDF recently by a friend who does XML and am trying to bury my head in this stuff at present.

The idea is to weave a Web that not only links documents to each other but also recognizes the meaning of the information in those documents

netdiver Cool! Netdiver, Carole Guevin's excellent web design site, awarded studioid the design forte award in the porfolio category.

I've been looking at cool sites on netdiver since I started doing webdesign professionally in 1998. It's one of the great sites that points to inspirational work on a regular basis. Check out the other great portfolios there as well. There's a lot of inspirational design work there.

Thanks netdiver!

What makes equality such a difficult business
is that we only want it with our superiors.
~Henry Becque

Until he extends his circle of compassion to all living things,
man will not himself find peace.
~Albert Schweitzer

If you judge someone, you have no time to love them.
