Who has the time to babysit their blog? 3 times today I had to go to the MySQL command line to delete trackback spam. I got over 500 trackback spams in one day. Stupid poker sites. Go away. I'm convinced now that Anonmyous Trackback and Comments are just broken.

I made a simple PHP patch for trackback.module that rejects the poker trackback spam. I've had trackbacks on for almost a day now, and no spam -- knock on wood. This blog entry gives the patch:

BTW, love your Drupal theme. Your site (the old one) was one of the reasons I went with Drupal for my home site.

Cool. Thanks, Bill. I'll try it out.

Incredibly, I had trackbacks on for a few hours after I tried and failed to apply Bill's patch. When I logged on this morning I noticed about 80 trackback spams. Sucks. I had to do my MySQL DELETE commands in trackback_received, comments, and node_comment_statistics once again. In the process, the legitimate comment that someone left here saying, "don't mention 'h o l d em' to me" got deleted as well.

I hope the new anti-spam measures that are being discussed on drupal.org will be added in future releases.
