A tribute to the notebooks I've loved, past and present.
After over 8 wonderful years at Lucent Technologies, I have finally decided to move on. Over the past few months a few really terrific opportunities presented themselves to me, and I have decided to go to work for Sling Media to help start up the Sling Entertainment Group. This new group was created to design the web experience for the Clip N Sling technology that was announced at CES last December. I'm coming on as the information architect. A very talented team is putting this group together, so I'm very excited for what's to come.
I expect that I'll continue to blog about information architecture and interaction design, but the frequency and volume of my blogging is likely to diminish. I tend to write long blog entries, but can't see how I'll maintain that pattern given the change in work and lifestyle I expect. But do look for a wider array of topics to be covered, including web video.
As I've mentioned in a previous entry, I am no longer providing consulting services. On to new things!
Sorry, but I am not available for freelance work or consulting services.
Hello
I'm an information geek at heart. I thrive on taking difficult design challenges and working with product teams to find elegant solutions. The web solutions I provide are based on understanding needs and delivering ease of use. I focus on understanding businesses, knowing their customers and providing user experiences that harmonize the two.
What I do
Full service web site design
I handle the entire process from inception to launch for most small to medium web site projects including: discovery and planning, user research, information architecture, interaction design, user interface and visual design, development and implementation. I often work with existing site designs that need to be realigned to serve different business needs or marketing strategies. On those projects I help synchronize new or evolvings needs with your customers' realigned web site experience.
User experience design
I have done strategy and planning for web site projects including: user research, information architecture and taxonomy development, information architecture analysis and heuristic reporting, interaction design, and standards-based markup and stylesheet planning.
Front End Development and Open Source CMS Integration
I'm occassionally called upon for turning out quick, standards-compliant sites when the project is already planned and visual design work is finished. I provide expertise with the creation of standards-based XHTML and CSS, JavaScript and PHP scripting, and MySQL development using the content management system of your choice. I have expertise in implementing sites in MovableType, Drupal, and WordPress.

I recently began an investigation into the possibility of pursuing the Ph.D. program at Rutgers SCILS. Dr. Anderson pointed me in the direction of the Ph.D. email list at SCILS and I got a lot of feedback from people in the program past and present. I think, based on the feedback, that I will have to put the program on hold for now. Being a new parent, I feel that the time taken away from family would be too much at the moment. And so it goes. Thanks to everyone for the supportive feedback. Maybe when Lorenzo goes to school I will go back too!
