It's been a couple of weeks since our trip to Jamaica and I'm already missing it. The humidity and 90 degree weather here in NYC doesn't help things much either.
We spent a wonderful week at the Fraklyn D. Resort, an all-inclusive that caters to families. We all loved it. The hospitality was incredible, the pools and water slides were great fun, the kids activities were amazing, and the jerk chicken was yummy. The place really treats you well. Highlights for me were watching Lorenzo on the water slides and getting to swim with a sting ray. Swimming swith squid was fun too and Lorenzo and I watched an octopus near a rock jetty.
The sting ray was something. Robin and I went snorkeling alone every day. One day while I was watching a small yellow sting ray on the sea floor, I saw this massive shadow move in my peripheral vision. I was a little startled at first when I realized it was a sting ray longer than I was tall. I estimated it to be at least 6 or 7 feet long from nose to tail. It was either a rough tail ray or a southern stingray. After my initial shock at seeing it, I swam alongside it for a few minutes until it soared into the darkness. Truly amazing to be so close to such a beautiful fish. I'll be talking about that one for years.
So far, Jamaica has been our favorite Caribbean vacation. We'll definitely be back soon.
